Facebook Ads Getting Likes but No Sales? 7 Real Reasons

Your ad has 600 likes, 80 comments, people tagging friends. It feels like it is working. Then you check orders: four.

This is one of the most confusing situations for a D2C founder. Engagement feels like proof of demand. On Meta, it often is not. Here is why your Facebook ads get likes but no sales, and what to change.

1. You asked Meta for engagement

If the campaign objective is Engagement, or if you boosted a post, Meta shows your ad to people who like and comment a lot. Some accounts like everything. They rarely buy.

Fix: run a Sales campaign optimised for Purchase. You may get fewer likes. You will get better buyers. If you are not sure about the difference, read Boost Post vs Meta Ads Manager.

2. The ad entertains but does not sell

A funny or beautiful ad can win attention and still say nothing about why someone should buy. People enjoy it and move on.

Fix: within the first few seconds, show the product and the problem it solves. Within 10 seconds, make the reason to buy clear: quality, price, a feeling, a result.

3. The comments are questions you are not answering

Open the comments. Are people asking the price, sizes, delivery time or COD? Every unanswered question is a lost sale, and others reading the thread lose trust too.

Fix: reply to every comment within a few hours. Hide spam. Pin a reply with price and the product link.

4. The price is a surprise

If the ad does not show the price and the product page reveals something much higher than expected, people bounce. Likes cost nothing. Paying ₹2,499 is a decision.

Fix: mention the price, or at least “starting at”, in the ad or caption. You will get fewer clicks from people who were never going to pay that price, and that is a good thing.

5. Your audience is fans, not buyers

If you are targeting your page followers or people similar to your followers, you may be reaching people who love your content but are not your customers. This is common with meme heavy or lifestyle content pages.

Fix: build lookalike audiences from purchasers, not followers. Or go broad and let purchase data guide delivery.

6. The website does not feel safe

A new Instagram first brand with a basic website faces a trust gap. Visitors check for reviews, contact details, return policy and real photos.

Fix:

  • Add reviews with photos on product pages
  • Show a clear exchange and return policy
  • Add a WhatsApp chat button
  • Show delivery timelines by pin code if possible

7. There is no reason to buy now

People like the ad, plan to “buy later” and forget. That is human.

Fix: run a retargeting campaign for people who engaged or visited in the last 30 days. Give them a reason to act: limited stock of a print, a launch offer, free shipping this week. Keep it honest. Fake urgency hurts trust and increases returns.

How to read your numbers instead of likes

Likes are a vanity metric for a store. Track these instead:

Metric What it tells you
CTR (link) Does the ad make people curious enough to click?
Cost per add to cart Does the product page work?
Checkout started to purchase rate Is checkout, shipping or payment causing drop off?
CPA What one order really costs you

If CTR is good but add to carts are low, fix the product page. If add to carts are good but purchases are low, fix checkout and shipping costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do likes on Facebook ads help sales at all? They add social proof, which helps a little. But they are not a goal. Optimise for purchases and treat likes as a side effect.

Should I delete negative comments? Hide spam and abuse. Reply calmly to genuine complaints. Visible, polite replies build more trust than a perfectly clean thread.

Why does my boosted post get more likes than my Ads Manager campaign? Because a boosted post is usually optimised for engagement. Ads Manager Sales campaigns optimise for buyers.
